Glasshouses for Living

LORING
is responsible for mechanical, electrical, plumbing
and fire protection services for the
construction of new greenhouses to promote the
propagation and production to support the
diverse horticultural collections at the New
York Botanical Garden in Bronx, New
York. The project consists of eight
completely independent zones, each provided
with a sophisticated climate control system to
simulate plants' natural environments, ranging
from Tropical Forest, Desert, Alpine or Aquatic
regions. The glasshouses will utilize
the state-of-the-art construction consisting
of operable roofs, venting and shading systems
to maximize system performance. The
project is being developed under the
guidelines established for certification by
the LEED (Leadership In Energy and
Environmental Design) standards. Owner's
Representative is Levien and
Company. Mitchell-Giurgola
Associates is the Project Architect.
