The
LORING Utilities Infrastructure Group with NK
Engineers provided comprehensive
engineering services (mechanical, electrical,
architectural, structural, civil site,
plumbing and fire protection) for
the conversion
and upgrade of a Rankine Cycle Power Plant into
an 11 MW Dual Fuel Combined Cycle (Bottoming
Cycle) Power Plant. The system includes
two 3.5 MW Combustion Turbine Generator
Sets, two 50,000 pph Heat Recovery Steam
Generators, a 100,000 pph auxiliary boiler, pressure reducing stations with
desuperheaters, boiler feed pumps and
deaerator tank. These were integrated with two
refurbished 2.0 MW Backpressure / Extraction
Steam Turbine Generator Sets.
The
electrical power generating system will have the capability of
paralleling with the utility grid, importing power
to the site from the utility, or operating in
an "island" mode. The project
included major redesign of site utilities
including storm water, sanitary, steam
distribution, a site city water booster
pumping station and underground electrical
duct bank relocations.
The project
for the Rhode Island Department of
Mental Health is being financed and developed by
NORESCO, construction management by ADA
Marshall/Fluor Daniel, Arden (Mechanical)
Contracting and Mass Electric.
