LORING's
Princeton office is responsible for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and
fire protection engineering services for the
renovation and
alteration of the Westport Country Playhouse.
Opened in 1931 in a 100-year-old cow barn, the Westport Country Playhouse has been home to over 700 plays, including 75 that
have transferred to Broadway. In 1999, Ford Farewell Mills and Gatsch Architects
(FFM&G) prepared a master plan for improvements to make the historic theatre a modern, year-round performance space.
In
2000, FFMG began work on the design for
renovations that include reconstructing the
theatre house to bring it up to code,
improving site lines, adding accessible
seating, and installing a new HVAC
system. A new lobby is being constructed
to allow for better accessibility, concession
space, and new accessible restrooms. The
existing workshop will be totally renovated
and turned into a rehearsal hall/black box
theatre with its own dedicated support spaces.
A new workshop will be provided in an addition
behind the fly tower with adequate dust
collection, storage, and air
circulation.
