Standby Power Generating Plant
New York, NY

As
prime consultant, LORING provided complete
mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire
protection design as well as coordination of
all subconsultants (architectural, structural,
vibration, acoustics, and rigging) for the
installation and commissioning of a standby
generator power plant. The plant provided an
ultimate capacity for 13.2 Megawatts,
consisting of four 2,200 kW diesel
engine generator sets with provisions for two
additional 2,200 kW sets. Fully automatic
paralleling switchgear included all
requirements for operation of the six sets.
The
plant generated power for distribution at 13.8
kV, via cable in conduit risers to each
of the four mechanical floors in both of the
110-story towers. Substations at each mechanical floor location
distributed power at 480/277 volts to serve tenant loads. The project was
performed for the Port Authority of
New York and New Jersey.
