The New Parliament House of Australia, Canberra
 |
In 1980, joint venture architects Mitchell/Giurgola and Thorp Architects won an international design competition on what Newsweek Magazine called The Architectural Commission of the Century, for the new Federal Parliament House atop Capital Hill in the city of Canberra, Australia. LORING was an original member of the Mitchell/Giurgola and Thorp team and produced a number of extensive concept designs for mechanical and electrical systems as part of the teams design proposal.
LORING was responsible for developing the engineering program and design criteria for all building mechanical and electrical systems including the central utilities plant, and all related preliminary design and design development. As the principal design engineers for the Parliament House, LORING provided technical overview and support to three Australian based mechanical and electrical consulting firms and continued to be involved in the overall coordination of the project.
The New Parliament House comprises over 3 million square feet and houses the nations Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, Prime Ministers Chambers and the Chambers for the Senate and the House of Representatives.
