Citicorp Center, New York, NY

LORING had sole responsibility for the design of all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building automation, vertical transportation and materials handling systems for the landmark, 58-story, 1,700,000-sf Citicorp Center Building. Designed in 1973, in the midst of the oil embargo, LORING developed many innovative energy conservation and alternative energy source systems that resulted in a significant increase in energy efficiency. In comparison to a comparable sized structure at that time designed to conventional standards, the Citicorp Center is 42% more energy efficient. This is due, in part, to its computer-based building management system, its heat reclamation system and its custom-designed low-brightness lighting.
