Electrical Engineer (MD-E-01)

Loring is seeking an Electrical Engineer with a proven interest in building design and sound knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals. This position is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and will support projects in Maryland and in the Washington, DC area.

The main responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

• Design power, lighting, fire alarm, and telecommunications plans including all associated circuitry, details, one-line diagrams, and specifications.
• Perform system design calculations, load calculations, arc flash and fault current, lighting, and any other calculations required to support electrical design.
• Prepare electrical Construction Documents, including drawings, specifications, and reports for buildings (in retail, office, multifamily residential, healthcare, and institutional market sectors).
• Review electrical documents for areas of conflict with all building systems.
• Ensure design is consistent with the overall vision and design schedules are maintained; work closely with the client and other design team members, including owners, architects, contractors, and members of other disciplines.
• Participate in the selection and specification of appropriate equipment for use in building systems.
• Incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings.
• Write reports and prepare specifications.
• Coordinate work with engineers of other disciplines and architects.
• Attend meetings and communicate with clients to establish their needs and discuss design issues with them.
• Manage a project, work area, or technical skill set, monitor the quality of work, and liaise with clients.
• Assist in the procurement of work, and manage multi-disciplinary project teams, including client relations and team motivation.

• A baccalaureate degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited 4-year institution.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in designing electrical systems for commercial/institutional building projects.
• Strong Revit capabilities.
• EIT or PE license, or desire to obtain a license, LEED Accreditation desirable.
• Previous electrical design experience with an A/E and/or MEP engineering consulting firm.
• Strong fundamental understanding of the National Electric Code and the International Building Codes.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, and a demonstrated capability for analysis and strategic thinking.

• Ability to multi-task on multiple projects in order to meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way, both verbally and in writing.
