Mechanical Designer (#JAM-ME-04)

Loring is seeking a Mechanical Designer for our Kingston office.  The incumbent will work under the supervision of a senior engineer and alongside other design team members across the organization.

• Design HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and controls plans including all associated details, risers, schematics and specifications.
• Perform system design calculations, heating and cooling load calculations, air-side and water-side pressure drop calculations, and any other calculations required to support mechanical design.
• Review of vendor drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs.
• Coordinate with other professional disciplines (architectural, civil, electrical, structural, etc.) to ensure the accuracy of design, and the timely flow of information throughout the project.

• A baccalaureate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 2 years professional experience.
• Understanding of the construction industry specific to mechanical building systems; and a desire to perform design engineering.
• Ability to understand project scope and complete deliverables with proper quality control practices.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way, both verbally and in writing.
• Strong computer skills including understanding of data analytics.
• Experience with 2D and 3D design tools (AutoCAD/Revit) would be considered an asset.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong Analytical and quantitative skills, and a demonstrated capability for analysis, problem solving and strategic thinking.
• Strong initiative—the willingness and ability to succeed in a collaborative, team-based environment.
• Ability to manage time appropriately and multi-task with multiple projects to meet deadlines.
