Mechanical Designer (TO-MD-01)

Role
Loring is seeking a Mechanical Designer in our Toronto office. The incumbent will work under the supervision of senior leaders and with design team members, clients, and others on various projects.
Primary Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare design calculations and design briefs for equipment.
  • Prepare design drawings and sketches for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection building systems.
  • Participate in field engineering assignments.
  • Develop data analytics tools for engineering projects.
  • Review of vendor drawings to ensure conformity with engineering design’s equipment sizing.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure the accuracy of design, and the timely flow of information throughout the project.
  • Develop and recommend improvements in design standards and improve work quality.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited 4-year institution.
  • Understanding of the construction industry specific to mechanical building systems and a desire to perform design engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience or previous internships/co-ops.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong computer skills including an understanding of data analytics.
  • Experience with 2D and 3D design tools (AutoCAD/Revit) would be considered an asset.
  • Bilingual (French/English) would be considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, and a demonstrated capability for analysis, problem-solving and strategic thinking.
  • Strong initiative—the willingness and ability to succeed in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Ability to manage time appropriately and multi-task with multiple projects in order to meet deadlines.
