Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer (NY-FP-01)
Role
Loring is seeking a mid-level, Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer to work within our New York City office Facilities group.
Primary Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
Work with the project team to develop drawings and specification documents.
Design plumbing systems, including the development of initial plumbing concepts.
Perform system design calculations, and preliminary water, gas, sanitary/sewer load calculations.
Select equipment for use in building systems.
Incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings.
Prepare contract drawings detailing the designed systems.
Write reports and prepare specifications.
Coordinate work with engineers of other disciplines and architects.
Attend meetings and communicate with clients to establish their needs and discuss design issues with them.
Correspond with the necessary utility companies to coordinate necessary incoming services.
Attend construction meetings, and correspond with contractors and the design team to solve construction issues.
Review RFIs and submittals of all plumbing-related items in construction.
Attend site visits and produce field observation reports.
Review finalized construction and provide punchlists of open items.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
A baccalaureate degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited 4-year institution.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in commercial, healthcare, or institutional building projects.
At least 5+ years’ current experience designing plumbing and fire protection systems.
Strong AutoCAD and Revit capabilities.
Strong fundamental understanding of national plumbing, fire and building codes.
Experience with site detention of stormwater and drainage a plus.
Laboratory and healthcare experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, and a demonstrated capability for analysis and strategic thinking.
Strong initiative—the willingness and ability to succeed in a collaborative, team-based environment.
Ability to multi-task with multiple projects in order to meet strict deadlines.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way, both verbally and in writing.
