Loring is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with a proven interest in building design and sound knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals.
The main responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
Design power, lighting, fire alarm, and telecommunications plans, including all associated circuitry, details, one-line diagrams, and specifications.
Perform system design calculations, load calculations, arc flash & fault current, lighting, and any other calculations required to support electrical design.
Prepare electrical Construction Documents including drawings, specifications, and reports for buildings (in the laboratory, higher education, historical renovation, museum, office, and institutional market sectors).
Review electrical documents for areas of conflict with all building systems.
Ensure design is consistent with the overall vision, and design schedules are maintained, work closely with the client and other design team members, including owners, architects, contractors, and members of other disciplines.
Selection and specification of appropriate equipment for use in building systems.
Incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings.
Write reports and prepare specifications.
Coordinate work with engineers of other disciplines and architects.
Attend meetings and communicate with clients to establish their needs and discuss design issues with them.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
A Baccalaureate Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited 4-year institution.
Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in designing electrical systems for commercial/institutional building projects.
Knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
EIT or PE license, or desire to obtain a license. LEED Accreditation desirable.
Previous Higher Education experience is highly desirable.
Previous Historical Renovation experience is highly desirable.
Previous experience in existing buildings is highly desirable.
Previous electrical design experience with an A/E and/or MEP engineering consulting firm.
Strong fundamental understanding of the National Electric Code and the International Building Codes.
Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, and a demonstrated capability for analysis and strategic thinking.
Strong initiative—the willingness and ability to succeed in a collaborative, team-based environment.
Ability to multi-task with multiple projects in order to meet strict deadlines.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas verbally and in writing.
