Founded on a Commitment to Smart Design and Technical Excellence
Founded in 1956 by Joseph R. Loring, an engineer of great talent and integrity, Loring Consulting Engineers is today one of the most respected mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, fire protection, commissioning, information technology, and energy services firms in North America. The company won its first project for the Schaefer Brewing Company in Brooklyn, NY. Less than six years later, the young firm was tapped by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to be the Electrical Engineer of Record for the world’s tallest and most iconic project — the World Trade Center complex — putting Loring firmly on the map.
Loring’s story of smart design, technical excellence, and commitment continues. From researching alternative battery systems and photovoltaics for New York City’s IDEA Initiative, building electrification, and helping building owners meet the most recent energy codes to providing millions of square feet of retro-commissioning services, we deliver sustainable, high-performance, and high-functioning building systems. Our mission is to bring the right technologies, impeccable quality, and adherence to schedule and budget to projects of every type — standards our founder, Joe Loring, would demand. Ahead of the green building revolution, we brought daylight harvesting to IBM facilities and we were part of an award-winning international design team that created the largest green roof of its time in 1984 for the Australian Parliament House.
Today, we are over 200 employees strong, operating from eight offices in the United States and Canada, with satisfied repeat clients and an impressive portfolio of over 12,500 projects that span the globe. Our reputation for responsible engineering stands on the successful delivery of some of the most technically challenging projects.
Through the years, we’ve made our mark on building design with cutting-edge and energy-efficient HVAC solutions; and received a national award for the achievement of a groundbreaking net-zero energy school building in New Jersey, the Willow School.
