Senior Mechanical Engineer (NY-FM-01)

Role
Loring is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a proven interest in building design and sound knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals. The incumbent will work in our New York City office within the Facilities group.
Primary Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Design mechanical systems including heating, cooling, heat rejection, air and water distribution, ventilation, air conditioning, building automation, and controls.
  • Perform system design calculations, load calculations, and energy modeling.
  • Select equipment for use in building systems.
  • Incorporate sustainable design methods into buildings.
  • Prepare mechanical Construction Documents detailing the designed systems.
  • Write reports and prepare specifications.
  • Coordinate work with engineers of other disciplines and architects.
  • Attend meetings and communicate with clients to establish their needs and discuss design issues with them.
  • Manage a project, work area, or technical skill set, monitor the quality of work, and act as a client liaison.
  • Assist in the procurement of work, and manage multi-disciplinary project teams including client relations and team motivation.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited 4-year institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in designing HVAC systems for commercial/institutional building projects.
  • Strong Revit capabilities.
  • EIT or PE license highly desirable. LEED Accreditation desirable.
  • Previous Higher Education experience is highly desirable.
  • Previous Historical Renovation experience is highly desirable.
  • Previous Healthcare experience is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in existing buildings is highly desirable.
  • Previous mechanical design experience with an A/E and/or MEP engineering consulting firm.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of ASHRAE and International Building Codes.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, and a demonstrated capability for analysis and strategic thinking.
  • Strong initiative—the willingness and ability to succeed in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Ability to multi-task with multiple projects in order to meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way, both verbally and in writing.
